There is no green and purple pottery! Even
though the times have changed many of the processes
that we use to produce our stoneware remains the
same. Our stoneware is made from local clays and is
produced by a 100 year old process called jiggering.
Although the items are no longer hand turned on a
wheel, the process still requires a good deal of
hand work to be done. The resulting products must
still be dried, glazed and fired as in the earlier
days. |

Today our stoneware is fired
in a kiln for a period of 72 hours at a
temperature of up to 2300 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of the method used, our pottery may vary
in color, shape and design.
As a result, each piece has a character all its
own. Cobalt blue seems to be the most popular
glaze but many colors are available as well
as three colors of Spongeware. |

Clay City
Pottery Stoneware is very durable making it
suitable for oven and microwave cooking. However,
our stoneware should never be placed in a
pre-heated oven. Our
products contain no lead and are safe for all
foods. The stoneware is useful for serving food
because it retains heat and is dishwasher safe and
very durable. If fact, we expect you to use it
everyday just like Grandma used to do. |
